Minster Lifeline 11/2025
This week Val writes:
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” This was said by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965 following “Bloody Sunday” in the United States when civil rights protestors were attacked and beaten by police on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. In this time rife with ugliness and hate, King exhorted his beleaguered congregation to live with moral courage when faced with grave wrongs or die with soul-killing silence long before you take our last breath. “A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice. A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true.”
Reading this made me stop and think. Does this apply to me? When we see and hear of terrible atrocities taking place in so many countries, do we shrug our shoulders and think that it has nothing to do with us?
“And a certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves.” I’m sure most of you will recognise how Jesus began the parable of the Good Samaritan Luke 10:30). The priest and the Levite who saw him passed by on the other side of the road and it was left to a Samaritan, and we know that Jews had no dealings with the Samaritans, to go over to help the man.
We don’t have to look very far from our own doorsteps, to see people in need, but do we figuratively ‘pass by on the other side of the road’? As we approach Easter, when Jesus gave His life on the cross in order that we might have eternal life, let us determine to have compassion and take a stand for that which is true.
EASTER FLOWERS
It is still a little way off Easter Sunday but Fiona our flower lady is planning the flowers for the Easter festival.
“I would like the church full of colourful spring flowers this Easter but like everything else the cost of flowers has risen a lot, although they are never cheap at Easter, but the prices of foliage has really gone up. So I’m asking if anyone wo has a garden with greenery that is suitable for flower arranging if they could spare a bit and bring it into church on the morning of Wednesday 9th April. This would give me a chance to sort through and then see what else I would need.
I’m looking for Forsythia, Leyland conifer, Choisya, privet, Eucalyptus and Phormium. The long the stems the better. Thank you.”

BRICK CHURCH - AN EXCITING AND FUN EXPERIENCE
Hello!
You are warmly invited to our second session of BRICK CHURCH on Saturday 5th April at 10am, this time thinking about the Easter story.
We eat breakfast together, and build a bible story using Lego or Minecraft. (Your own device is needed for Minecraft with Minecraft: Play with Friends already installed.)
Children need to be accompanied by an adult - and it's not just for children. The adults had great fun with the Lego last time!
If you would like to come, please sign up so we can see how many to cater for - you can also give your preference for food. The link is below, and includes photos from the last Brick Church:

RUGBY DERBY
Not very often this happens at Hull Minster. Players from both sides of the river came together on Wednesday to show off the Rugby League Challenge Cup ahead of the Quarter Finals. Of course our Verger Jon had to get to grips with the silverware.
AN ANGEL UPDATE
We have tagged over 987 angels with another 100 plus coming into church on Thursday from lovely knitters including a bag from St Andrew’s Sutton Park.
The board in the North Choir Aisle holds 137 which have been returned and their prayers read by the clergy (mainly the lovely Rev Irene) before being hooked up.
The deadline for new knitted angels is 1st April and we would like those to be returned by Easter please.
If anyone has any ideas of places who would like some angels, please let us know. Gill Alden
ELECTORAL ROLL
If you wish to be able to take part and vote in the Annual Meeting, or the PCC, you need to be on the Electoral Roll. This must be done before the Annual Meeting. Forms are in the back of the Church, near the welcome desk. Please, if you have not already, consider signing up and becoming a more active member of the church.
GIRLS BRIGADE
Girls Brigade attended Breakfast Church on Sunday. It was great to award Risa with her Bring a Freind and Approaching Easter badges. Risa is wonderful member of our group, she is so kind, supportive and a friend to everyone. Risa is a big help on an evening and especially excels in helping to remember and guide us in action songs. On Sunday Risa demonstrated the Makaton signs of the Lord's Prayer. Thank you for helping us to add this to our prayer and worship.
It was fabulous to welcome Viktoria, a new leader, into the Girls Brigade family. Viktoria has been a great help, and I thank God for her, Gill, Jill and Emmeline who help to run Girls' Brigade and make it a great place to be each week.
On Tuesday we awarded the rest of badges and inducted a new member Megan to our Girls Brigade family which was wonderful. Well done girls, the leaders and I are proud of what you are achieving. Lauren

PRAYERS FOR THE FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
· We pray for all people affected by the terrible earthquake in Myanmar, that help with clearing the rubble and aid for all those who are suffering will come quickly, and that finances for restoring the country will be available.
· For peace in areas of conflict around the world, especially the Middle East and the situation between, and in, the US and Ukraine.
· Pray for children everywhere who are going through horrendous suffering.
· For all those suffering injustices, that they may receive freedom from the burden and suffering that they are undergoing, especially those who are suffering for their faith. Pray this week for a Christian young man imprisoned in Iran who has been badly beaten for asking for treatment for his heart condition.
· For all those who come into the Minster seeking help, that God will meet them in their needs.
· Pray for those receiving the knitted angels that they will be blessed by the prayers that go with them.
· Pray that we will have the right attitude and be filled with love and concern for those who are struggling in whatever way. Help us to give willingly for their needs.
