Minster Lifeline 21/2025

This week Revd. Irene writes:

On Monday evening, Val and I went to Tim’s presentation of his visit to Israel. Val has kindly agreed to tell us more.

“When I was teaching at South Hunsley, for several years I taught about the Arab-Israeli conflict in the twentieth century.  It was fascinating to see the pictures and listen to Tim’s account of Jerusalem in the twenty-first century and how it presented a very different image. And yet, so many things remain the same.  It made the scriptures more real.”

The first photograph shows the The interior area of the Citadel which is believed to be 4,000 years old.  At the time f Christ, it was where Pontius Pilate lived and held his Court.  It would have been where Christ was taken to be questioned.

The middle picture is one of the two sites of the Bring Them Home movement.  I volunteered for half a day to show my support.

The third picture is something I had not expected or was even aware of its existence: The stone slab where it is alleged Christ was laid when taken down from the cross.

The photograph on the left is the view of Tel-Aviv from the ancient port of Jaffa.

The second says Tim, was “My first sighting of the walled city of Jerusalem. I can truly say that I felt I was a Pilgrim about to walk in the footsteps of Christ. A very emotionally charged experience”.

A very big thank you to Tim for bringing alive the city of Jerusalem where Jesus walked, preached, healed the sick, and outside whose walls, he died on the cross for us.

GIRLS BRIGADE

On Tuesday we had two special things happening, the first was our young leader Imy, smashed her young leader silver practical assessment and successfully led the girls in games, devotions and craft, all in half Session. ‘Well Done, Imy’, she has one more year of young leader training to go. Imy discussed being kind and loving thy neighbour and how when we say mean things it can leave mark not everyone sees. Imy then linked in the craft to use a reminder of how to be kind which will go onto our display board next week, so please look out for this.

After this the girls and families were invited to take part and listen to the Northern Lights Girls Brigade Band. They all loved having a try on the instruments and the band played brilliantly. It sounded wonderful in our beautiful church. Hopefully some of the girls will want to come, learn and make new friends in the band as it includes girls from across our district and provides them extra learning opportunities.

If I can put a call out in, we are looking for volunteers to help run our craft and games stall at Victoria Dock summer fun day on Saturday 5th July. Please can you get in touch with me, if you think you would be available to help. My number is 07508975775. Lauren
