Minster Lifeline 20/2025

This week Revd. Irene writes:

Lord God, Thank you that we are all like Lego bricks and Minecraft blocks.

You made us all different sizes, colours, with different abilities and talents, and yet like Lego bricks and Minecraft blocks we can all fit and work together, because we are all made in your image.

Jesus, as we build together, help us to build for you, to make our world a better place. AMEN

As I write for Lifeline this morning I am witnessing a great activity in the Minster – Brick Church along with bacon and sausage sandwiches! The above was the opening prayer. As you will see, from the photographs, around tables are many families all different sizes, colours, abilities, and talents yet wonderfully working together.

The Church throughout this country struggles to get young people to be part of it. What could be better than an offering like this. Katie Ogilvie is working hard to achieve an MA  in Theology, Ministry and Mission with a focus on Children, Young people, and families. and she and others are working very hard to welcome young people into the Minster.

The story this morning was ‘the wise and the foolish man’

Great Lego examples on houses built on sand and rock and attempt to show the wind and storm which blew the house built on sand down. Our message: Jesus is our firm foundation, help us to follow His truth and be grounded in His Word.

After singing the action song ‘The Wise man built his house upon the rock….’ we finished with this prayer.

Jesus our true foundation, keep us grounded in your word

and focussed on your truth so that we can live in joy,

peace and hope all our days. When the storms of life surround us,

remind us that you are our rock and safe place. AMEN

STEP BACK IN TIME!
Hull Minster are delighted to be hosting a Medieval Festival this year as part of their HT600 Project. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply looking for a day of unique entertainment, there's something for everyone!
The site of Hull Minster has been used as a place of worship since the 12th century. The current building stands courtesy of royal, medieval patronage: Edward I funded the current building in 1297. The medieval church was eventually completed in 1425 and was very likely the site of fairs and festivals in a bygone age.
We are hoping to harken back to that tradition this year on our 600th anniversary, hosting a Medieval festival in front of Hull's most striking Medieval landmark: step back in time, and experience the sights, sounds, and splendour of the Middle Ages!

– Wander through authentic period shelters and encounter immersive actors who bring the past to life with engaging stories and demonstrations.
– Soak in the sword-smashing combat displays in Trinity Square
– Marvel at the skill of craftspeoplefletchers, and merchants showcasing traditional trades and wares.
– Be delighted by the antics of jesters and entertained by live musicians performing period tunes.
– Enjoy contemporary medieval games, explore unique artisan stalls, and soak in the atmosphere of a bygone era.– Take in live-action shire courts and curious medieval myth busters
– Enjoy our family friendly workshops: make your own stained-glass windows, try your hand at calligraphy, and more!  James Cameron

Choir Mum (Zuzanna’s Mum) Justyna, would like your support.

I'm taking part in the 60 Miles in June challenge in aid of the National Autistic Society.

The National Autistic Society are there to help the 700,000 autistic people in the UK and their families - be it running specialist schools, campaigning for improved rights or training companies on being more autism-friendly, they are dedicated to transforming lives and changing attitudes.

Sixteen months ago, I began a journey that changed my life—I started working with a non-verbal adult with a high level of autism. At first, it was challenging, but soon I discovered the deep and unique ways he communicates beyond words. This experience touched my heart and inspired me to learn everything I could about autism. I dedicated myself to training and growing, so I could be the best support possible. Now, I want to give back even more by joining this fundraiser, to help other autistic people find understanding, care, and the support they deserve.

TRISTAN IS 18!

One of our special and delightful young volunteers from Northcott Sixth Form College,               has just celebrated his 18th birthday:

GIRLS BRIGADE

Wow, it might have been half term, but it has been certainly eventful! Five girls and I went to Kingswood (PGL) activity Centre in Dearne Valley near Doncaster for the weekend along with other girls and leaders from the Hull & East Yorkshire District Girls Brigade. The girls generally had a wonderful time with a few ups and downs. They were amazing and I am so proud of them all. They had a go at all the activities from Zip lining, Jacob’s ladder, buggy building, scrapheap challenge, crate stacking and problem solving. Teamwork was a theme throughout the weekends activities as they had to work together to climb the ladder and support each other in having a go and pushing themselves out of their comfort zones. There were lots of screams, yelps, and laughter. What an amazing experience! For 3/5 girls it was their first time joining us at Girls Brigade camp. Of course there was little sleep, this seems to go hand in hand with residentials, but the food helped and luckily coffee and peppermint tea kept me afloat! It was a great chance to get to know better and make new friends and build on the current friendships.

Still recovering from camp, our girls took part in a national Girls Brigade competition 'Team Challenge.' The girls are provided with a specific bible story (Moses) and related activities that must be undertaken within a set time and points awarded. Tonight we split the groups by age. The younger group focussed on the parting of the red sea and produced a play to retell this story. They also had to work together as  team to make a den.

The older team also focussed on Moses, but they had a look at the burning bush, and They had to produce a retelling of the play, work together to create a heart using shapes provided. They also had a messy spaghetti activity trying to spell words relating to the story using alphabetti spaghetti. It was great fun to watch. The girls did well in producing and acting out their play.

Thank you, Betty Irvine and Rob Suekarren who were independent adjudicators to ensure no cheating was happening and we kept to our official timings. Thank you to Emmeline, who went all over town for me to find the alphabetti spaghetti which I had completely forgotten about! Thank you also to Gill, Viktoria, and Jill whom I threw in at the deep end to facilitate these tasks. Thank you. You are most appreciated.

If I can put a call out in, we are looking for volunteers to help run our craft and games stall at Victoria Dock summer fun day on Saturday 5th July. Please can you contact me if you think you would be available to help. My number is 07508975775.
