“For all the Saints”……. Having just celebrated All Saints it’s important for us to look at who are the Saints. Looking around the Minster windows there are many Saints depicted in our stained-glass windows – great. However what about the living saints, the ones that follow God’s instructions as best they can and who bring God’s love to their neighbours and friends?
At our 9:30 worship this morning we had the verses from Isaiah 1:10-18, a powerful message from God to the people through the prophet Isaiah. A message showing God’s frustration with sacrifices and offerings being made but not followed up with actions. Whatever words we speak are meaningless if not followed up actions. Love isn’t about texting ‘are you OK?’, I’m here for you’, it’s about actually showing up, listening and being around even when it’s inconvenient.
Words mean nothing without action – God is not impressed with words (read the Isaiah passage). The great thing is our passage ends with the verse “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” God is so brilliant he will act for you and me because we are so special to him. That means no matter how many mistakes we make, God is ready to forgive and that’s what made the saints shine so brightly they trusted in that promise from God.
“Help us to live with clean hearts and loving hands, so that we, too may be lights in your world, everyday saints!”
GIRLS BRIGADE
Psalm 104:24 "How many are your works, Lord!
In wisdom you made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures."
What a wonderful way to finish half term. We welcomed back three new girls for the second week, and they joined in and were welcomed by our wonderful members brilliantly. We finished our badgework tonight on Climate and Environmental Justice. The girls finished their display, and we discussed things that we can do in our homes, schools, and communities about how we can make a difference, however small to preserve our beautiful earth that God has made. Jill led us in our devotions this week. In Gods wisdom he has made everyone beautiful, and we are so blessed we have such a wonderful, friendly group. We hope they all have a wonderful safe half term and look forward to seeing them in November.
1st Hull Girls' Brigade forms part of the Hull and East Yorkshire District Girls Brigade. We are going to present at Cottingham Christmas Festival to raise funds for our district. The money gets put back into HEY District to subsidise trips, events, and training. If you have any tombola items you would be able to donate to help us, it would be most appreciated. We would need these by Tuesday 4th November and please mark them for Lauren, Gill Alden, or Jill Harpham. Any donations are gratefully received.
With many blessings, Lauren
YORK MINSTER TRIP
During half term, our young volunteers with different learning abilities, who have now formed a social group, visited York Minster. For all, but Claire, it was their first visit. They had an awesome time looking around, trying to find both Bishop Eleanor's and Dominic's seats in the Chapter House, comparing the Nave and Chancel to ours and visiting the crypt and underground museum.
They were such a joy to spend time with, and they were very professional in their Hull Minster uniform and behaviour, and the way they treated each other and the volunteer helpers: both Hull and York Minster's. The highlight of the trip for me was when Tristan told a York Minster volunteer that he loved the bath that was in the museum, which turned out to be a coffin! He also asked whether Dominic sits in his chair? He awaits Dominic's answer.
The day filled us all with joy, and was a huge success, thanks to the other volunteers that came along to help: Becky, Kath, Jacob, and Sean.
Our next social event is a film and pizza night in church during the New Year week when church is closed. As we are welcoming new students to Hull Minster, in the run up to Christmas, the numbers in the social group will grow. So if you would like to volunteer to help at these events, please let me know.

CHRISTMAS AT THE MINSTER SHOP
This year’s Minster Christmas card is now out. A lovely picture of the nave looking extremely tidy with the Gaia. Peace on Earth is the theme. Very appropriate in such a troubled world. Single cards or packs of 6. There are packets in 10s of Christmas cards with Christian texts. Traditional advent calendars and candles along with a good selection of Christmas decorations and gifts. Come and have a look whilst stock is available. If I’m around on Sundays, please ask if you can’t get in during the week.

CHRISTMAS CEILIDH
Volunteer and Church family, Christmas Ceilidh. Bring your own supper - there will be a bar! Bring all the family, friends, neighbours ...
What is a ceilidh?
Pronounced kay-lee, the word descends from the Old Irish céle, in Gaelic literally translating as "visit". Today you can count on a ceilidh being music, lots of dances, lots of involvement, and a fabulous, fun night out.
Do I need to know the dances?
No! The whole point of a ceilidh is that everyone should be able to join in, irrespective of experience, age, and fitness. We will have a caller who'll explain the steps involved in each dance and keep you on track once the dance has started. There's often a range of experience amongst the dancers too, so if it's your first ceilidh, you're unlikely to be the only one treading the boards for the first time.
