On Wednesday this week our wonderful verger Jon sets off on pilgrimage to the Falkland Islands. I have had the privilege of spending time with Jon recently and have heard a great deal about his time in the Royal Navy during the Falklands War. Jon’s ship, the Ardent was attacked on 21ST May 1982 and destroyed, losing twenty-two crew members. The main purpose of this pilgrimage is to visit the memorials to the 255 servicemen and three Islanders who perished in the Falklands war and also take part in the Liberation Day Parade on the 14th June. Please pray for Jon as he visits the Falklands with seven other veterans for safety and for healing of difficult memories.

GIRLS BRIGADE
The Northern Lights Girls' Brigade Band are playing in Pearson Park next Sunday (11th June) 2pm-3pm. It would be great to see people there to share in a variety music from hymns, traditional songs, Disney, and film music.
Our badgework this term is looking at Speaking out and Being the Change. We are exploring the story of Naaman and his servant girl who spoke out to help Naaman, so that he was cured of Leprosy. Our first craft was making linking to speaking out was making these phone speakers.

Welcome Café is held every Thursday morning 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please do drop in and support whenever you can. We hope to grow this facility and invite many different groups along. There will be newspapers, games, table talk and much more with coffee and cake supplied. It is extremely important that our church family pop along on occasion, as we need people to welcome and chat to those that may be visiting for the first time.
From 12:30 soup will be served and drinks throughout the afternoon until 3 p.m.
ORDINATION OF PRIESTS
We were delighted to host the ordination to the priesthood for three local candidates yesterday. The Minster was full of well-wishers for Jonny, Jenny and Shelley as Bishop Eleanor and Archdeacon Andy led the service. We pray they will be filled with the Holy Spirit in all they do and be loyal servants of Christ for the whole of their lives.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
This Sunday much of the Old Town and out to the wider city, will have road closures due to the races that are taking place. They are too many closures to list here so would suggest you look at the website.
HULL FOR HEROES
Hull Minster will now be collecting food for the Hull for Heroes foodbank. They need ambient long-lasting food like tins, pasta, sauces etc. also toiletries. The donation point will be behind the Welcome desk, so clear out your cupboards! Bailey
COMPASSION UK CHARITY
On Sunday on 21st May, Clare Nelson from the charity Compassion UK came to join us for both our 9.30am Breakfast Church and 11am Holy Communion Services, to preach God’s word to us tell us about the work of Compassion UK. Clare shared stories of how the lives of children in other parts of the world, who lack the basic things that we take for granted such as clothes, food, medical check-ups, and educational support, are changed by child sponsorship through Compassion UK, who work with local partners. At the end of each service, there was an opportunity for any who felt led to support this work to sponsor a child. There are twelve children who live in Uganda who can be sponsored through Hull Minster. So far, seven of these children have been sponsored by congregation members. There are five children who remain to be sponsored from this church if we so wish. Therefore, if anyone would like to sponsor one of these remaining children, please email rob (rob.suekarran@hullminster.org) for more details. The deadline for sponsoring these children is Sunday 11th June, after which the particular link of these children in Uganda with Hull Minster will close, and sponsors from further afield sought.

PLEA FROM WELCOME HOUSE
We have been asked by Olga, our Ukrainian friend, whether we are able to collect small toys for use at Welcome House. Welcome House provides daytime facilities for Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Hull and the East Riding. Often these are families with small children and at the moment they do not have toys for the children to play with.
If you can help, please bring things into the Minster, and leave for Irene. Thank you!
EXCITING JUNIOR CHURCH
It was great fun this week as children had to make decisions about what LOVE IS and what LOVE IS NOT. They had a pack of ‘hearts’ saying such things as ‘kind’, ‘patient’, ‘grumpy,’ ‘jealous’, and they had to decide on which large heart on the board to paste these. They were supposed to walk quickly but as you can see, that turned out to be more like running. It was great and everyone enjoyed it, whilst learning important lessons

GIRLS BRIGADE
It was good to have the Girls’ Brigade taking part in the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service, as they led our prayers and encouraged us in singing. There were badges given out and one new recruit welcomed into the group.
Education Matters!
It was such a pleasure to be joined by Corey, Ellis, Jacob and Josh,this week when they visited the Jewish Living Experience Exhibition. They first came to Hull Minster for a primary school education visit when they were pupil at Bude Park Primary School.
Now apprentices at Ron Dearing UTC, they remembered the communion activity they did with Jane and Irene and were able to relate this to what they saw in the exhibition. We often wonder what impact education has on the youngsters we meet and have to wait a long time to find out. They feel welcome and comfortable at Hull Minster and often meet up with their friends during their long Thursday lunch break. I think we can call this success! Jane Owen
