As we move into the season of Lent we prepare our hearts and minds to remember Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Of course we prepare in many different ways, introduce an extra time of prayer, do something we would not normally do, deprive ourselves of something etc.
We could commit ourselves to the Lenten Groups that are taking place, Pilgrim course Wednesday evening, START course Thursday mornings or our regular Bible Study – on line at Hull Minster/Bible Study 730 p.m. Wednesday evenings.
There are more details below of the two new Lent courses.
Whatever we do I hope it is a special personal time for each one of us.
EXCITING JUNIOR CHURCH!!
Not only pictures from our junior church this week but also our young people at the 9 30 service created camels, as we heard teaching about how hard it is for the rich man to enter the Kingdom of God but of course not impossible. Jesus replied to the people saying:
“With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”
Junior Church learned about the journey that Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem, and the birth of our Lord Jesus

PILGRIM COURSE: TURNING TO CHRIST
What do Christians believe? Turning to Christ explores the heart of Christian belief through the six questions asked at baptism. Wednesday evenings in Lent at 7:00 pm from Ash Wednesday 22nd February.
START COURSE
Start Course: Thursdays in Lent 11:30 a.m. from 23rd February.
Got questions about life and the Christian faith? If you’re looking for answers then maybe it’s time to make a Start. Normally run in groups of about six to ten people, each session involves video clips, exercises, group discussion, and time for reflection. Each session lasts about an hour and is free to attend. - What’s life all about and where are we going? - Does God exist and what is He like? - Why is the world in such a mess? - Who was Jesus, and is He relevant? - What does Jesus’ death on the cross mean for me today? - How far can I go forward with God in my life? ‘Start’ will help you discover more about God, Jesus, and the journey of life.

You will see from the notice below that Thursday morning will become the Welcome Café from the 2nd March. Please do drop in and support whenever you can.
After Minster Praise on Thursday last week we were delighted to be entertained by a young man who has come to this country from Ukraine with his grandma, Olga. His name is Mykhalchenko Tirill he is 10 years old and plays the piano beautifully. A young man with so much talent playing from the heart with no music. What a delight this was to all of us. Mykhalchenko was thrilled when Dave Allum took him to play the grand piano in the church.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER- OH HOW WE NEED IT!
Hilda's Heirs activity day
Hilda's Heirs is a fun day of activities celebrating women and girls in mission and ministry. It is based at Hull Minster but includes an optional treasure hunt around the city.
Children and young people are invited to attend with leaders from their groups or their family. Activities include: brass rubbing, designing stained glass windows and a Minster Mystery Trail
The day will start at 10.30am with a short worship service and end with a communion led by Bishop Eleanor of Hull and Leslie Newton (Chair of the Methodist District). During the day there will be a variety of activities and crafts on offer. A soup and sandwich lunch will be provided by the Hull Minster Café.
We are asking for contributions of £5 per head (£15 per family) towards food and resources, but please get in touch with:

GRIEF AWARENESS CAFE
Three of the ladies from the Grief Café last week where we were delighted that Tony NHS Chaplain joined us in the hope that he can start something similar at HRI. New people are turning up each month and finding comfort and friendship as they share refreshments together.
MINSTER PRAISE
This will be held on Thursday 16th at 10:30. Everyone is welcome to this short informal service followed by cakes and coffee/tea

Thank you to everyone at Hull Minster for all the gifts, cards and good wishes on the occasion of my 85th Birthday and “retirement” last weekend. Val, as ever, produced a lovely cake, despite feeling poorly, which was enjoyed by everyone after the service. The unexpected flowers were much appreciated by Julia.
STEPPING UP
GROWING NEW DISCIPLES IN PLACES WHERE
LIFE IS TOUGH.
A new Stepping Up learning Community will be starting in Hull after Easter.
Stepping Up provides an opportunity for lay people to come together once a week with people from other parishes in Hull to grow together as disciples of Jesus, and explore how to develop mission in their local community.
Over forty people have now completed Stepping Up in the urban and coastal communities of our York Diocese. They are involved in mission in their church and community in many different ways, and witnessing their churches grow as they share God’s love in the local community. I am so excited to be taking part in this event which has been organised by the York Diocese. It is great to run a group for girls and be able to celebrate how amazing women are and how we can work together to learn more about God, our faith and share with others the amazing things he did for us. It is great for our girls and families to see how faith works through different people at different stages in their journey.
