Hull Minster Choir sing at our 11am Holy Communion Service, on the first and third Saturdays of the month at 4pm Choral Evensong and other special services throughout the year.

There has been a choir at Hull Minster (Holy Trinity) for at least 700 years. The earliest surviving accounts of choristers in this church date back to circa 1320! Much has changed since then, and yet…today’s choristers have much in common with their forebears.

Hull Minster Choir sing in 4 or more parts (SATB) from notated scores, with an amazing repertoire spanning 500 years of sacred composition.

The Choir aspires to produce a professional standard of music-making on a weekly basis. We are constantly learning, striving to provide music of inspiring beauty. The Choir are occasionally required to sing for national broadcasts and in other churches (including Cathedrals).

Education is a fundamental element of Hull Minster Choir. We support the learning of children in the choir (choristers) via a bursary scheme called Choral Scholarships.

The Choir membership consists of women, men, boys and girls aged 7 to 70.  We are always seeking to welcome people who are excited by our work and are keen to develop new skills. We have high expectations in terms of commitment and learning, but the experience of being part of a choir like this is hugely rewarding.

Being part of a choir like this is often life-changing. You will experience the intimate beauty of Choral Evensong, the rousing power of a Civic Service, the spine-tingling atmosphere of Christmas Carol services, and the joyful beauties of wedding services. Every time we sing, we create a moment in time that may influence someone else in a profound way.

Music at Hull Minster: Our vision for the next generation

This church (and the region that it serves) has an incredibly rich history of singing.  Our ambition is to stimulate a thriving and energetic culture of high-quality singing in Hull and the surrounding area.

Our mission: to establish Hull Minster as a centre of excellence for the Anglican Music Tradition and organ music.

Our vision: to encourage as many young people as possible to develop their aptitude for singing and their love of music, nurturing their development within a ten-year education programme, and helping them to achieve a nationally recognised standard of musicianship.

We strongly believe that being part of a thriving choir, with fine choral music at its core, will develop and stretch the abilities of young people in ways that are not widely available.

We know that being part of a good choir brings very tangible benefits to the participants, and that the processes of learning to read/sing music have considerable impacts in terms of wider education.

Choirs provide the opportunity to learn from others, develop new skills within the safety of a larger group, enjoy the processes of learning and performing successfully, and gain a very genuine sense of community and team-spirit.

In summary: being part of a choir can significantly benefit physical, mental and emotional health.

And…it’s fun too!
