Minster Lifeline 4

REV. IRENE writes:

As I drove past the Baptist Church on Cottingham Road, I saw a new poster on their notice board which read:

Do you follow the ‘love of power’ or the ‘power of love’.

I was struck by those words and then was told that a common phrase in a Jimi Hendrick song is ‘when the power of love overcomes the love of power there will be peace’.

These words must bear some truth as so often the love of power takes over and leads to conflict, suffering, and unrest. Yet!  Jesus offers us the power of love and we know through the bible that that power can move mountains.

I hope that as I read those words so will thousands of others and in doing so may be encouraged to "Be kind, compassionate, and forgiving to each other, in the same way God forgave us in Christ." Only through this can the power of love overcome the love of power.

EXCITING JUNIOR CHURCH!!

Junior Church - over the last 12 months the young people have been working through the books of the Old Testament. On Sunday we finally got to the Book of Daniel. The lions’ den was filled with fierce creatures, thanks to Tom and Katie P, guarded well by Oliver and Jess! Dan made an excellent Daniel, and Rev Rob was King Darius. Great fun was had!

DAVE AND JULIA ALLUM CELEBRATE

Sunday was the 85th birthday of our dear friend Dave Allum. We were delighted to present him with his favourite drink and a voucher for afternoon tea at Rowley Manor, and Julia with flowers.  Dave recently stood down from the role of verger after many years of service.  Prior to this, he served as Churchwarden. Having said that he is not ‘disappearing’!  Not only will he be in church for his Saturday duty manager role he will be standing in for Jon when Jon goes on holidays etc.

Dave and Julia are great role models.  Without fuss they always make sure that people in their church family are cared for. They are the first to visit if someone is not well and can always be relied upon.

BAPTISM OF LAYTON AND GEORGE

Pollyanna and Charlie have been part of our 9:30 service for several months now and on Sunday lunchtime Layton and George were baptised.

It was a great pleasure baptising the children and knowing that their parents and godparents made promises for them to grow in their Christian faith.

In August Charlie and Pollyanna are also being married at the Minster. What a great example of young people making the decision as adults to follow Jesus and to encourage their family to know of His love.

EXCITING JUNIOR CHURCH!!

From Daniel to Jonah!

Great excitement at Junior Church as the children re-enacted the story of Jonah.

After many weeks of looking at Old Testament stories next week begins the life of Jesus as they visit the New Testament gospels.
