Our plans come alive at spectacular event
Plans for the transformation of Holy Trinity came alive at a spectacular launch event.
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, and the Chair of Hull UK City of Culture 2017, Rosie Millard, joined scores of civic, community and business leaders at the launch our £4.5m development project, which will see the church transformed internally and the creation of a stunning piazza-style public space in Trinity Square.
The Archbishop urged the people of Hull and the wider region to give generously to raise the remaining £3m needed for the redevelopment and said that, when it was achieved, Holy Trinity, which is England’s largest parish church, would be re-dedicated as a minster.
The heart of this is the church being restored, so that all kinds of cultural events can take place – I think it’s wonderful,” he said.
Ms Millard said: “Holy Trinity can be a catalyst for the Old Town – the historic heart of Hull. I very much hope the church will play a central role in City of Culture. It’s a fantastic venue. My goodness, who would not want to come here, either as an audience member or performer.”
The launch event featured a range of musical and artistic performances, including by Opera North, which showcased Holy Trinity’s potential as a major cultural and community venue in 2017 and beyond.
