Gabrieli Roar presents...Come and Sing!
Saturday 2 December 2017, 2.00pm
Join Charles MacDougall (Chorus Director) and the young singers of Gabrieli Roar for an afternoon of thrilling melody ahead of Praetorius: Mass for Christmas Morning, Saturday 2 December 2017 in Hull Minster.
Recreating a Christmas morning as might have been celebrated in Germany around 1620, Praetorius: Mass for Christmas Morning is a feast for the senses, with intimate solo vocal colours combining with historical instruments of every shape and size, and rousing hymns for massed congregational forces.
In this ‘Come and sing!’ event, Gabrieli Roar Chorus Director, Charles MacDougall, will get you singing with energy and intention to some of the best-known melodies of the Lutheran tradition, culminating in an opportunity to sing with Gabrieli’s acclaimed Consort and Players under the baton of Artistic Director, Paul McCreesh.
All participants are encouraged to purchase discounted tickets for the evening event as well, at which time we hope they’ll sing as lustily as in the afternoon.
Don’t miss your chance to take part in this unique and festive event. Participation is free, but you must book online to attend.
Gabrieli Consort - Praetorius: Mass For Christmas Morning
On Saturday 2 December 2017, Gabrieli, Bradford Catholic Youth Choir and DRET Youth Choir present Praetorius: Mass for Christmas Morning, the first performance of the programme in nearly 20 years.
This glorious reconstruction of a typical 17th century German Christmas Mass – the 1994 recording of which remains Gabrieli’s bestselling release on Deutsche Grammophon – is beloved the world over, and for good reason. Blending intimate solo vocal colours with historical instruments of every shape and size and massed choirs of professional and amateur voices, this is early baroque music at its most thrilling and dynamic.

For 35 years Gabrieli and our Artistc Director Paul McCreesh have surprised, challenged and inspired audiences with world-renowned interpretations of great vocal and instrumental repertoire from the renaissance to the present day. Gabrieli Roar, our unique choral training scheme, stands apart from other education projects by putting the inclusion of young singers at the heart of Gabrieli’s core activity.
Bradford Catholic Youth Choir
Bradford Catholic Youth Choir (Tom Leech, Director) comprises four separate choirs for boys and girls, and is supported by St. Bede’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic College and Holy Family Catholic High School (Keighley). Coming under auspices of the Diocese of Leeds choral training programme (the largest for young people in the United Kingdom), Bradford Catholic Youth Choir’s recent highlights have included BBC1's 'Songs of Praise' on Easter Day, and the soundtrack to the film 'London Fields'.
DRET Youth Choir
The DRET Youth Choir (Simon Toyne, Director) draws its membership from ten secondary academies in the David Ross Education Trust across Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, working in schools where there have historically been little to no opportunities to sing classical repertoire. They have been active Gabrieli Roar partners since 2016.
